چکیده

Chemokines are a group of peptides of low molecular weight that induce the chemotaxis of different leukocyte subtypes [1]. The major function of chemokines is the induction of leukocyte migration to inflammation sites, but they also play a role in tumoral growth, in angiogenesis and in organ sclerosis [2]. At the present more than 50 chemokines have been described, which can be classified in 4 major families on the basis of the position of the cysteine residues in their NH2 terminal portion [1]. So far, only two of these families have been extensively studied and characterized. They are CC and CXC (target of our interest), chemokines which are defined on the fact that between two cysteine residues another aminoacid is inserted.

Expression of CXC Chemokines Gro/KC and SDF-1a in Rat H4 Hepatoma Cells in Response to Different Stimuli

Background: It is now well established that several environmental stress factors cause activation of p38 MAP kinase and JNK in various cell types to produce chemokines. Objective: To investigate the expression of CXC chemokines Gro/KC and SDF- 1a in rat's H4 hepatoma cells in response to heat shock, hyperosmolarity and oxidative stress. Methods: Hepatoma cells were maintained in MEM medium. Cel...

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor and CXC chemokine expression in non-small cell lung cancer: role in angiogenesis and prognosis.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to determine whether expression of migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is increased in non-small cell lung cancer, and whether it correlates with angiogenesis and/or prognosis. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN We measured vessel density, and levels of MIF, angiogenic CXC chemokines, and vascular-endothelial growth factor (VEGF; by ELISA) in tumor and normal lung tissue ...

Syndecan-1 shedding facilitates the resolution of neutrophilic inflammation by removing sequestered CXC chemokines.

Heparan sulfate binds to and regulates many inflammatory mediators in vitro, suggesting that it serves an important role in directing the progression and outcome of inflammatory responses in vivo. Here, we evaluated the role of syndecan-1, a major heparan sulfate proteoglycan, in modulating multiorgan host injury responses in murine endotoxemia. The extent of systemic inflammation was similar b...

Association of Melasma with Thyroid Autoimmunity: A Case-Control Study

Introduction: Melasma is a common acquired hypermelanosis seen mainly in women which occurs on the sun-exposed skin of the face. The exact cause of melasma is unknown. The majority of the cases are attributed to pregnancy, combined oral contraceptive pills, genetic factors, sun exposure, use of cosmetic products, thyroid disorders and anti-convulsant drugs. This study was performed to evaluate ...

CXC chemokines: angiogenesis, immunoangiostasis, and metastases in lung cancer.

CXC chemokines have been found to be important in the regulation of angiogenesis and tumor-related immunity, and in promoting organ-specific metastases. This review highlights the importance of CXC chemokine ligands and receptors in mediating non-small cell lung cancer tumor-associated angiogenesis, "immunoangiostasis," and organ-specific metastases. These findings may ultimately lead to clinic...
